Artwork for the facade and grounds of the Wickford Junction Train Station, 1051 Ten Rod Road, North Kingstown, RI, will be commissioned through Rhode Island’s Public Art Law, which mandates that 1% of all state capital construction and renovation funds be allocated to the purchase and maintenance of public art.

The Juried Art Exhibition Program provides Tri-State artists with an opportunity to exhibit their work at the Staten Island Museum. Only original works of art completed within the last three years by practicing professional artists living in the Tri-State area are eligible. The artist may submit up to 3 works in various media including, but not limited to oil, watercolor, acrylic, pencil, charcoal, pastel, pen & ink, graphic art, collage, sculpture and photography. The Tower Gallery, College at Brockport, NY is issuing a call for submissions for an upcoming exhibition Fall 2012 entitled “LOW FIDELITY”. Each new day seemingly brings new advances in creative resources, leaving a wasteland of outdated and obsolete equipment and antiquated technologies, such as flip cameras, slide projectors, old sound equipment, etc.  The Tower Gallery is seeking artists that purposefully employ older and outdated equipment and technologies in their work.  Works can also address conceptual ideas related to “Low Fidelity”, be it through cultural or socio-political statements.

Brooklyn Artists Gyms announces open calls for three upcoming exhibitions: “Matter,” “Small Works,” and “Painting in the Digital Age.” The exhibition “Matter” aims to create conversations in terms of the traditional and nontraditional materials used in constructing the artworks. For their annual Small Works group show, BAG is seeking submissions of 12 x 12 x 12 inches (unframed) or smaller.  All mediums and subjects accepted, as long as size meets the requirements. For Painting in the Digital Age, BAG is seeking paintings that have been influenced by digital technology. Examples of influence or responses to: pixilation, photography, social networking, Internet, computers, the speed and amount of information available. This open call is limited to paintings.

Crest Hardware is accepting submissions for its 11th Annual Crest Hardware Art Show, which will open on June 30th. The opening day celebration, Crest Fest 2012, will bring the community together with art, food, drinks, live music and local vendors. This year’s event will take place at Crest Hardware, located at 558 Metropolitan Avenue, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Crest Hardware will offer over 10,000 sq ft of indoor and outdoor retail space & storefront windows. Last year’s opening day attendance was over 4,000 people. Submitted work must be about, made with or inspired by hardware.

The NARS Foundation is accepting submissions for its second annual Juried Solo Exhibition Open Call. The Juried Solo Exhibition Program provides emerging and underrepresented artists with curatorial and administrative support to present a solo exhibition at the NARS Foundation Gallery. The aim of the program is to foster new dialogue and to create a forum for artists to experiment and exchange ideas with a wider audience. The juror for  this year’s competition is Benjamin Genocchio, former New York Times Art Critic and current Editor-in-Chief of Art + Auction Magazine.

The Exquisite Uterus: The Art of Resistance
Women’s Studies Consortium

In reaction to what is being called the most current ‘War on Women,’ artists Helen Klebesadel and Alison Gates are facilitating a collaborative artwork for an exhibition they are curating in conjunction with the 2012 Wisconsin Women’s Studies/ LGBTQ Conference. Interested artists and other motivated participants are asked to embellish a plain cloth uterus “blank” (a square of organic canvas fabric with a simple black and gray medical illustration of a female reproductive system printed permanently on its surface.)

A Studio in the Woods is accepting applications for four six-week residencies, which include a stipend and supply budget. They  invite artists to submit applications to our environmental residency series titled Ebb & Flow: Dialogues between art and water, addressing the ecological challenges exemplified by Southern Louisiana. Laid Waste: Dead Matter, New Landscapes and the Politics of Trash

Contemporary analysis of global warming and “green” conservation measures confront us with the environmental and political implications of the use and abuse of resources, matter and space. The generation of material waste and its impact on communities has taken many forms, including Lucy Walker’s documentary of Vic Muniz’s “trash” in Wasteland (2010), Agnes Varda’s film The Gleaners and I (2000) and Chris Jordan’s photographs of landfills of obsolete, discarded technology. This session calls for scholars committed to investigating the ways in which the generation of organic and inorganic waste has engendered new perspectives on the individual, community, and geography. Interdisciplinary approaches are encouraged.
