Installations and Performances for 2014 Gala

Chashama is seeking visual art installations and ambient performers for their annual Gala on June 9th, 2014 from 5:45pm – 9pm. All participating artists will be paid for their time and stipends for supplies are available. Interested artists should send the following to jobs@chashama.org with “2014 Gala” as the subject line:

  • brief paragraph describing your performance/ installation proposal
  • list of required supplies

Terra Incognita
Curious Matter

Curious Matter is proposing “Terra Incognita,” a Latin phrase associated with historical maps, meaning “unknown land,” as a departure point for an exhibition of work that explores unknown territory— whether that is a physical place, a psychic state, or the use or application of media. All media will be considered. Ideally, artwork should not exceed 24″(framed) in any direction for wall hung work. Owing to space limitations small work is most appropriate. However, larger work and sculpture will be considered. Video work will be considered and can be presented on small monitors.

Pets, Beasts & dinner: Relations Between Human and Animal Creatures

For a group exhibition in September-October 2014 at Gallery Bergen, works of art are sought in any medium addressing diverse relations between humans and animals. Please send a disk that contains up to ten jpgs of no larger than 1.MB of works available for exhibition, a checklist of those works with year made, size, material, insurance value and address located for each; a one-page artist’s statement about the submitted work; a resume of professional activities; and a cover letter. The Hacktory, Philadelphia’s first hackerspace for hackers and artists, announces its inaugural Unknown Territory Fellowship and Artist-in-Residency. There are two different programs, one open to artists working with software and electronics worldwide, for 2-4 week fellowships, and an artist residency program for six-month residencies for Philadelphia-based artists with little experience in software and technology. Both programs offer the opportunity to learn and explore at the edges of technology and art, literally in unchartered territory, to create new experiences and new possibilities with code, hardware and creative expression.

AUX Curatorial Fellow
Vox Populi Gallery and AUX Performance Space

Vox Populi Gallery and AUX Performance Space seek a visionary, experimental, and proactive writer/curator/artist to participate in critical research in time-based performance and media arts in Philadelphia. After a two month period of research, the successful candidate (in collaboration with the Events and Performance Coordinator) will lead a two month period of programming and lecturing. Working with the staff, board, and outside consultants, the Fellow will help facilitate an exciting independent series that will be in dialogue with AUX’s existing and future programming. The position will include room and board for non-Philadelphia based curators. A $2000 research and lecture honorarium will be awarded at the beginning of the fellowship. Each Fellow programming cycle has a $2000 budget towards their programming series with additional funds available for artist transportation and accommodation.

Summer and Fall Artist Residencies
Old Furnace

The Old Furnace Artist Residency is currently accepting applications for summer and fall residencies. It is open to all forms of artistry: sculpture, painting, video, sound, conceptual, poetry, fiction writers, critical theorists etc. Special attention is given to practices which are focused on social justice and socially engagement. Artists can stay for a minimum of 1 day and a maximum of 1 month. There are no fees for the residency besides the donation of one piece of art. Room and board are provided. Exhibition, lecture, workshop, and peformance oppurtunities are available.
